Hereford - Stevenage, English Conference League

2004-08-28 16.00 CET

Pick:       Hereford

Stake:     2%

Odds:      1,80

Final reasons

Title favourites Hereford has started the new season brilliantly. Tomorrow they face Stevenage who has had mixed fortunes so far this season. This is a bet recommendation on Hereford’s strengths rather than Stevenage’s weaknesses. Stevenage is a competent side that sometimes can perform very well. However, 1,80 on an impressive an in-form Hereford is to good to ignore. 2% stake is suggested.

General comment about the game

The English Conference league continues on Saturday. We have found special interest in the game between Hereford and Stevenage. Hereford is one of the favourites to win the title this year. Last year ended in a very disappointing way. Despite a very good run in the closing rounds they missed the first place, meaning direct promotion, to Chester. Then they lost on penalties to Aldershot, who finished 20 points behind Hereford, in the play offs. To this season they are full of confidence and want revenge for last years dismissal. They have almost the same squad as last year so they know they have the ability to fight for a top spot. However, they have lost two regulars from last year; striker Steve Guinan to Cheltenham (38 goals in his 75 league appearances for Hereford) and defender Michael Rose. They have made two interesting signings in players with Premiership experience; goalkeeper Jonathan Gould from Preston and striker Lee Mills from Telford. Hereford’s start of the season has been excellent. They have dominated all three games they have played in the league so far, however “only” collecting seven points. The draw came when playing away to newcomers Crawley Town. Hereford had many chances to extend their lead and had full control of the game until the host’s very surprisingly equalised five minutes before full time. In last game they played away to relegated York and won comfortably with 3-0. Hereford has had the benefit of being able to play with the same starting eleven in all three games. They can continue that on Saturday since no new injuries are reported. They even have a full squad to choose from since striker Danny Carey-Bertram and defender Ryan Green have both resumed training and are pushing for a place in the starting line-up.

Stevenage has big ambitions. Last season they were big spenders and rebuilt their team. However, their effort did not have the impact that they hoped for since they had to settle for a place just outside the play offs. This year they will have better opportunities since the new boys have had one year to settle down but it may even so be to soon for them to be a real challenge. They have had mixed fortunes in the beginning of the season. They started with two straight defeats against good opposition; Dagenham & Redbridge and Aldershot. However in last round they showed their potential by winning over Accrington with 5-0. Also Stevenage can continue with the same starting eleven as last.
