Luton-Bournemouth, English League One

2004-08-30 16.00 CET

Pick:       Luton

Stake:     3%

Odds:      1,86 (OBS! The odds is presented as an AH -0,5 on Ladbrokes.)

Final reasons

Luton has started the new campaign with five straight wins. Today they are being able to field the same squad as in the last game away to Blackpool and therefore we think they will have a big chance to grab another win. Bournemouth has also started quite well with only one defeat so far; away to Hull. However we think that a fully fit Luton, with home advantage, will prove to be to strong for Bournemouth. 3% is the stake.

General comment about the game

The English League One continues with a Monday afternoon round today. One of the games that have drawn our attention is Luton at home against Bournemouth. Luton has started the new season in a splendid way with five straight wins and is now the only team in the league with maximum number of points. Last game Luton played away to bottom side Blackpool and won 3-1 after being down 1-0 already in the beginning of the game. Blackpool was far better than previous games and they could hold on the lead until the middle of the second half when Steve Howard and Ahmet Brkovic scored one goal each in just a minute. Brkovic also scored the last goal for Luton in injury time. For Howard it was the ninth league game in a row where he scored, and that is now the new club record. The player situation in Luton is very good, all players are available since young defender Kevin Foley (3(0) apps, 0 goals), defender Alan Nielsen (2 (0) apps, 0 goals) and midfielder Steven O’Leary (3(0) apps, 0 goals) have shaken of their injuries and are all back in contention.

Tenth placed Bournemouth has started the new season in a decent way with only one loss so far away to Hull in the first round. Bournemouth made a good season last year, as newcomers, and ended on the ninth spot. To this season they have not made many changes with the squad. Among the first team regulars they have only lost one, and that is striker Warren Feeney who has left for Stockport. Feeney played in Bournemouth for three seasons and he made 32 league goals during that time. Last year he played more than 40 league games and made 12 goals. The new striker Dani Rodrigues (2 apps, 0 goals) has not much experience of English League football, and he will have to prove his abilities. Another new player is young defender Eddie Howe (5 apps, 0 goals) who has signed on loan from Portsmouth. Bournemouth beat Wrexham in the last round with 1-0. Bournemouth was the better side and could hold Wrexham under pressure the most part of the game, but it was Wrexham that should have taken the lead in the first half when a correct goal was denied them by the referee. Instead of Wrexham being up 1-0, Bournemouth took the lead and then controlled the game quite well. In the second half they should have doubled the lead but the game ended with the single goal, since they lacked a bit of concentration in front of goal. Midfielder Wade Elliott (5 apps, 1 goal) became injured in the Wrexham game and is likely to miss the Luton game. Also doubtful are defender Stephen Purches (0 apps, 0 goals) and midfielder Jason Tindall (0 apps, 0 goals).
