Pick: Morecambe
Stake: 2%
Odds: 1,73
Final reasons
Morecambe is an expected top team that has started in a less promising way. The last round against Scarborough was a step forward and since Morecambe normally is a very strong home team they should have no problem to overcome lowly Leigh. We recommend 2% on this bet.
General comment about the game
Also the English Conference League plays a full round this Bank Holiday Monday. One of the games of interest is Morecambe against Leigh. Morecambe has been one of the better teams in the Conference League the last seasons and the aim for this year is of course once again to be promoted. However things have not started as good as expected. So far Morecambe stays on the 17th position, and it is time to start winning. Normally Morecambe is a very good home side and playing Leigh must be perfect in order to take their first home victory for the season. Last round Morecambe played away to Scarborough in a game that ended 1-1. Scarborough started best but after a while Morecambe got into the game and created some good chances. In the 33rd minute the visitors could take the lead. In the second half Morecambe started best, but now it was Scarborough who could score the equaliser in the 59th minute. During the rest of the game both teams tried to score the winner but although some good chances the game ended in a 1-1 draw. For today’s game Morecambe only has an injury doubt over midfielder Ian Swan (4 apps, 0 goals). Otherwise there are no injuries or suspensions in the squad.
As we mentioned in the preview between Barnet and Northwich Victoria, there are teams that ended on the relegation spots last season that are still playing in the Conference League since other teams got into financial troubles or failed to make the grade. Leigh is, like Northwich, one of the lucky teams. The problem in Leigh however, was that almost all players were let to go before they realised that they were to keep on in the Conference League. This means that the preparations in Leigh for the new season was not ultimate, and so many believe that they will have another tough season. As for Morecambe the start for Leigh has not been good; only one point so far. Last round Leigh lost to one of the worst conference sides during the spring months Halifax, with 3-0, at home. The fact is that Leigh did not upset Halifax at all, and bearing in mind that Halifax had no clean sheets before that game, it is apparent that Leigh is very unsharp. Leigh has no suspensions but both defender Greg Rioch (2 apps, 0 goals) and midfielder Gareth Holmes (3 apps, 0 goals) are sidelined with injuries.
