Final reasons

Top clash in the English League One! Who would have thought that before this season started? OK, Luton had ambitions to be among the play off candidates, but Chesterfield - by many tipped to be relegated. Now the two teams possess spot one and two. Luton has made one of the most promising and impressive starts of all teams in the English leagues. They play with style and full of confidence. Six straight wins and a draw in their last game is admirable. Also Chesterfield has started brilliant by collecting four wins and only one defeat so far. However, we believe the saga for the Chesterfield players will soon be over. Anyone who saw their weak performance last week against MK Dons realises this. Luton is a better team than Chesterfield and possesses better players and therefore we think they will extend their already big lead in the league on Saturday. However, we must consider that Chesterfield has played some very good football early on this season so we go for a medium stake, 3%.

General comment about the game

Our fourth bet recommendation on Saturday in the English League One is the clash between Luton and Chesterfield at Kenilworth Road. Table toppers Luton has impressed big time so far this season; their record 6/1/0 shows that. The thing is also that they are worthy of all the points they have collected. They play with pace and skill and together with their confidence, from both manager and players, they will be a real threat for any team in this division. As manager Mike Newell said recently, he has full confidence of all his players and knows that they can beat all teams in the league. The only negative so far is that they in some games have had difficulties to kill them off. They do need keep possession better in these situations even if they have not suffered any lost points so far. Last weekend they played a tough away game against fellow promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday. The hosts ended Luton’s winning streak with a resilient performance to earn a goalless draw. Both teams created chances and both managers were pretty happy with one point. No new injury or suspension worries in the Luton squad. Instead four fringe players have finally shaken off their respective injuries and are available for selection.

The biggest surprise so far this season is Chesterfield. They reside on second place with a very good record of 4/2/1. Most of the points have also been well deserved especially in the early rounds where they showed skill and great togetherness. However, their last two games have not been as good as the previous ones. Last midweek they played at home against Port Vale. This was a dire match that sprang to life eight minutes after the break when Chesterfield scored the winner and soon after the visitors got a man sent off. Even if Chesterfield won the game they played not as good as before. The real low point of this season came last weekend when they played at home against MK Dons. The visitors started with some good chances but it was the hosts that scored and in halftime they were 2-0 up. However, after the break Chesterfield played static and seemed to lack invention. Dons continued to create and were rewarded twice so the game ended with a draw. After the game, Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland was relieved to get a point even if they had a 2-0 lead because they did not deserve that lead. And that statement sums it up! Defender Ian Evatt (6 apps), who missed last game is rated doubtful together with defender Steve Blatherwick (6 apps) and midfielder Jamal Campbell-Ryce (4 apps). The last two sustained injuries against MK Dons last weekend.
