Final reasons

Promotion hopefuls Swindon has hit the good form after a scrappy start of the season. Four wins from their five latest games has put them up in the promotion race. In these matches they have played solid, effective and shown why they are a team that many tipped to be involved in the topflight. On Saturday they have the chance to further strengthen their bid when they play host to struggling and injury plagued Peterborough and we believe that they will grab this opportunity. Medium stake, 3%.

General comment about the game

Fifth placed Swindon will take on 16th placed Peterborough at home on Saturday. Swindon made it to the play offs last season but did not manage to get promoted. This season they are one of the favourites to be up their and fighting for promotion again. Swindon has made no big changes in the squad. Most noticeable is that last years joint top scorer Tommy Mooney has left for Oxford. However, in August the club made two loan signings from premiership clubs which seems to fall out well; especially Darius Henderson (4 apps, 4 goals) from Gillingham who made two goals in his debut in the victory against Bristol City. Early in September defender Andy Gurney (6 apps) left for Swansea so the club has made another loan signing in Paul Mitchell (2 apps) from Wigan. After their disappointing start of the season with two straight defeats they have played much better and have climbed up the table. The partnership between Henderson and last years top scorer Sam Parkin (7 apps, 5 goals) has been brilliant during times; especially in the 3-0 trashing of strong Hartlepool two weeks ago. That match was one of the best performances Swindon has made in the last couple of years and it could easily have ended with more goals. However, the ending of their next match made manager Andy King furious since Swindon was cruising to another victory and was up 2-0. However, bad defending which let Walsall score easy goals turned the match around and in the end the hosts had won with 3-2. Some of the players looked lethargic, said King, and they have to do something about that. They did, since in last game they put up a solid display and showed great defensive skills when they beat Colchester away with 1-0.  Striker Henderson is Swindon’s only important injury doubt on Saturday.

Tipped relegation candidates Peterborough has started the season with mixed fortunes. In the fourth game they made their best performance so far this season when trashing Brentford with 3-0. It was a real one-sided affair that could have ended with a bigger win than it did. However, since that they have played four games (three in the league and one in the league cup) and have not made a single goal from open play. The results have been three defeats and a goalless draw against lowly Blackpool at home. In that game they could not even hit the target so the Blackpool goalkeeper had an easy afternoon. In last game away to Bristol City they even missed a penalty kick in a game they eventually lost rightfully with 1-0. The worries are also getting deeper for questioned Peterborough manager Barry Fry since more and more players get injured and the tally is now up in eight players. Latest bad news is that influential midfielder Curtis Woodhouse (7 apps, 1 goal) got injured in training this week and will definitely miss Saturdays clash. Other important players ruled out are; strikers Leon Constantine (2(4) apps, 0 goals) and Calum Willock (4 apps, 0 goals), winger Dave Farrell (5(2) apps, 1 goal) and defenders Adam Newton (7 apps) and Sagi Burton (3 apps, 1 goal).
