Final reasons

Malmö FF are going for gold! In their latest games they have shown that they are capable of going all the way and that they definitely are one of the best sides in Swedish football for the moment. They are strong all over the field and boosted by confidence. However, their toughest rival IFK Göteborg is also showing great form for the moment with seven straight victories and is breathing heavily down the Malmö players necks. Only goal difference separates the two with Malmö the current leader. This means that a win against relegation candidate Örebro is necessary to keep the chasers behind them. If Malmö can keep up the kind of play they have done recently they will win comfortable today. We believe they will do that and therefore we stake 3% on Malmö.

General comment about the game

Today gold favourites Malmö FF travels north to face relegation candidates Örebro in Swedish Allsvenskan. Malmö is in the driving seat to win the title this year with only six rounds left. The last couple of rounds have seen them play tremendous football. In their latest game they totally outclassed reigning Champions Djurgården with 2-0 at home. The figures were nearer 10-0 than 2-1. During spells they created clear goal scoring opportunities in every attempt. Only good goalkeeping and lack of cutting edge from the strikers in Malmö prevented the bigger figures. Also in the game before, away against fellow title chasers Halmstad, Malmö showed their class. This must have been one of the best games so far this year in Allsvenskan. Both teams made very good performances and showed great attacking skills. The hosts were slightly better in the first half and were also 2-0 up. In second half Malmö took over the game and managed too score twice to set the final result to 2-2, which was a fair result. Since our last recommendation on Malmö they have made three changes in the squad; central defender Daniel Majstorovic has left for Dutch side Twente. To replace him they have bought Peter Abelsson from Trelleborg. Also former Swedish international Yksel Osmanovski has joined the club. Abelsson has played in the last two games and has performed quite well. Today Malmö will have the benefit to be able to field an unchanged side since previous matches. Skipper Hans Mattisson is still missing together with long term injury victims Patrik Andersson and Jörgen Ohlsson.

Örebro is struggling near the relegation zone. The club has all kinds of problems, both off and on the pitch. They are having financial problems which have forced them too sell their best player Petter Furuseth Olsen to Hammarby recently. On the pitch they have struggled all season. Örebro is known to play tight defensively and often boring. This season they tried to change that by playing much more attacking minded. However, they could not manage that because their defence were left alone and big defeats in the beginning of the season forced them to change tactic again. This has not worked out so well either since they have only five victories during all season. Before last rounds surprise victory against Helsingborg they had played eleven matches with only one win and only one point from their last four. Relegation seemed to be the only outcome. However, after last weekend’s win they can still see some light in the tunnel. The win against Helsingborg was very valuable for Örebro but in the beginning of the game it did not look as if they should be able to take three points. The guests started best but when Örebro got 1-0 after a penalty the homeside started to play much better. In second half Örebro made 2-0 before Helsingborg got their first goal. A second penalty saw Örebro getting a 3-1 lead. After this Helsingborg started to press, but although being very close on some occasions in the end of the game, Helsingborg could not a score more goals against a very nervous Örebro defence. Worth to mention is that Helsingborg had some influential players missing in this game, and this might be the reason for them not playing as good as in recent rounds. Also worth to mention is that Helsingborg has been much better at home than on the road this year. Örebro has no players unavailable today.
