Final reasons
Luton is cruising at the moment. They sit at the top of the league seven points clear of Hull on second place. Tomorrow they will once again have the benefit of a fully fit squad and they will face struggling Peterborough. Under normal circumstances it should be an easy task for the Luton players to get all three points. Peterborough has surprised before this season, but Luton has been outstanding in the league and will of course be a much tougher task for Peterborough than their previous opponents. It will not become easier since Peterborough’s squad is plagued by injuries. An easy home win is predicted and therefore we stake 4% on the home side.
General comment about the game
Tomorrow table toppers Luton will face relegation candidates Peterborough at home on Kenilworth Road. Luton is flying at the moment with eight wins from nine played games in the league. The Luton players shine of confidence and they should since they play very good football. The squad has been boosted by the loan signing of striker Gary McSheffrey from Coventry. McSheffrey had a successful loan spell at Luton also last season. He was available in their last game away to Stockport. However, he made it only to the bench and a second half substitute since the striking pair Steve Howard and Roman Vine are showing excellent form. It will probably be the same on Saturday but the adding of McSheffrey has given manager Mike Newell more options upfront. In the Stockport game Luton showed their class and scored three goals before the home team managed to score a consolation goal. At home Luton has so far a perfect record with four straight victories and they will definitely go for a fifth straight win on Saturday. Luton is at full strength on Saturday.
Struggling Peterborough is currently on 15th place in the league. They are by many tipped to be involved in the relegation battle this year. Since they have been plagued by injuries so far this season their start has been better than expected. They have of course struggled in many matches, but they have also made some good performances in between. Two weeks ago they surprised many, also us since we recommended a bet against them, by winning with a single goal away against good home side Swindon. That was their first goal from open play for nearly a month. Last week they got beaten by Hull with 3-2 at home. The result was fair and the match became very unlucky for Peterborough since both their regular strikers limped off injured; Callum Willock (5 apps, 1 goal) who made a stunning come back from injury and scored the opener had to leave with a recurrence of his hamstring problems. Also striker partner Clive Platt (9 apps, 2 goals) had to come off injured. In the end when Peterborough tried to equalise they could not create any real danger and it was obvious that they need their strikers to do this. Both will miss Saturday’s clash against Luton. Unfortunately, Peterborough’s injury concerns does not stop here. Defenders Adam Newton (7 apps) and Sagi Burton (3 apps, 1 goal) together with midfielder Peter Kennedy (7 apps, 1 goal) will also miss out tomorrow. Midfielder Dave Farrell (5(2) apps, 1 goal) is however expected to return to the squad after his injury but has not yet gained full match fitness and therefore may have to set on the bench.
