Final reasons

Strong home side Millwall has a very big chance to take their fifth home victory for the season today as they play against an out of form Gillingham that appears to have lost much of their confidence. We stake 3% on a home win.

General comment about the game

13th placed Millwall takes on struggling Gillingham who currently resides on the 23rd spot. Millwall has played six home games and won four of these. The two losses were against strong Wigan and against Watford. Some of the wins have been against good sides such as Reading and Leicester. Millwall is playing very compact and there are not many goals in their games, but as long as they can keep clean sheets you do not have to score so many goals in order to win games. In the last round Millwall fell away against Sunderland. The match was a tight affair, and maybe it was correct from Sunderland manager Mick McCarty to hail his goalkeeper after the game as one of the best shot stoppers in the business. The result was 0-0 at half time and the only goal came 20 minutes into the second half. After the goal Millwall pressed hard for an equaliser but the Sunderland goalkeeper could ride out the storm. Today Millwall have defender Adrian Serioux (5 apps) doubtful while forward Paul Ifill (4(1) apps) is out with injury. Otherwise all important players are available and with some players returning after suspension and injury things look quite good for Millwall.

Gillingham has problems this season. For the moment they have five straight defeats and things do not look good for them. On the road they have lost four out of six games. In the last round Gillingham lost at home to another struggling team Sheffield United who took their second win in seven games. The game was a low key affair with both teams playing without any confidence in the beginning. However Sheffield showed some goal scoring capabilities and was the best side in a game they won with 3-1 although being down to ten players in the end of the game. Today captain Paul Smith is very doubtful for Gillingham, and he will probably not play. Definitely missing is defender John Hills (12 apps) and long term absentees defender Barry Ashby (6 apps), midfielder Mark Saunders (3 apps) and striker Tommy Johnson (0 apps).
