General comment about the game
Highflying Torquay will travel to York on Saturday in a Nationwide division three clash. Torquay is the form team of the league with eight victories from their ten last games. They have also three consecutive victories both at home and away. This very good run has put them back in the direct promotion race again. Currently they are on fourth place only two points behind second placed Hull. Last game was at home against rejuvenated relegation battlers Carlisle and the Torquay players showed early on that they are a much better team. They were 2-0 up already in the 20th minute after two goals from Kevin Hill. Carlisle could not rise after that and when the final whistle was blown the home team had won easily with 4-1. Last away game was a brilliant display against Hull three weeks ago in a match that ended in a well deserved victory for the visitors from Torquay. Torquay boss Leroy Rosenior has minor worries over defender Craig Taylor (31 apps, 3 goals) and midfielders Jason Fowler (24 (2) apps, 2 goals) and Alex Russell (33(1) apps, 2 goals). All have slight injuries but we believe that they all will play. Definitely out is winger Tony Bedeau (12(6) apps, 1 goal) through suspension.
17th placed York has the opposite form than Torquay. They have only taken two points from their latest ten matches. Before this catastrophic period they were up fighting for a playoff spot but now they face a tough relegation battle instead. They are only five points above third from bottom Rochdale and has also the disadvantage of more games played. Their last two games have been clear defeats; away to fellow relegation battlers Kidderminster with 1-4 and at home against mid table Scunthorpe with 1-3. After the Scunthorpe game the York manager was very disappointed with his players and thought they had conceded three easy goals. The only light in the tunnel is that defender Richard Hope (28 apps, 2 goals) is fit once again after the injury he sustained against Boston United three weeks ago. Player manager Chris Brass (31 apps, 1 goal) is however still suspended and furthermore midfielder Lee Bullock (34(1) apps, 7 goals) has moved to first division Cardiff on a loan deal.
We can not believe that Torquay’s unbeaten run will end on Saturday against an out of shape York side that will miss two important players. Considering that Torquay’s away record is not as good as their home record we will suggest a more careful bet than a straight win for the visitors. An Asian handicap 0:0 giving the money back if York manage to hold on to a draw, 3% stake.
