General comment about the game
Fifth placed Swindon welcomes struggling Grimsby to one of two English Division two games this evening. Swindon is a really good home side this year and for the moment they have seven straight wins at home. Swindon has a very impressive scoring record when playing at home; they have only made less than two goals in four out of their 18 games played. Last weekend Swindon played away to league leaders Plymouth in a game ending with 2-1 to the hosts. Plymouth started the game by scoring an early goal. Both teams continued to create a number of good chances but no other goals were made in the first half. The second half kept on in a similar way with both teams creating good chances without managing to put to final touch to the ball. Therefore it was typical that the second Plymouth goal was made after a defensive mistake by the Swindon goalkeeper who picked up the ball after getting it from one of his defenders. On the following fast free kick Plymouth suddenly were two up. However, Swindon who were down to ten men in the end of the game kept on fighting and finally they got their well deserved goal. With one point reachable Swindon put Plymouth under hard pressure during the final minutes but they were unable to equalise. In all it was quite a good game by Swindon despite losing. The way they did it and bearing in mind that Plymouth is a very good team, this will probably not affect their minds to long. Swindon will probably once again be without Brazilian midfielder Stefani Miglioranzi (26(1) apps, 3 goals) in the starting line up since he suffers from an ankle injury. However, he is likely to be on the bench. Also midfielder Steven Robinson (20(2) apps, 1 goal) who has been out since the end of January is still missing through injury.
Grimsby is involved in the relegation battle currently on 19th place. They have been in a bad period for a very long time now even if their recent home record is quite decent. Since late November they have only managed to win four games from 17 attempts; three of them have come in recent home games. Their away record is terrible for the moment. During the whole season they have ten losses so far and now they have six straight losses with a total of 23 goals in the back, which is nearly four goals per game. Last weekend Grimsby was up against Bournemouth at home. Grimsby’s new man in charge Nicky Law had made some changes in the line up in order to get things going in a better way. Grimsby started well and made the first goal already after ten minutes. In the second half the Grimsby defender Warhurst made an own goal after 72 minutes and in the following minutes Bournemouth almost grabbed the winner but a good save by the goalkeeper denied them and 1-1 remained until the final whistle. To this game midfielders Iain Anderson (18(3) apps, 4 goals) and Stacy Coldicott (5 apps) are probably back in contention after being out with injury for the last games. Defender Jason Crowe (19(4) apps) is rated doubtful. Fellow defenders John McDermott (21 apps) and Simon Ford (18(4) apps, 1 goal) are definitely ruled out with injuries. Also suspended midfielder Tony Crane (31 apps, 2 goals) will be missed.
This is a game that is very likely to end with a comfortable home victory. We can not believe that Swindon will be denied by Grimsby’s sloppy defence, especially since they also have some players away. 4% stake is suggested.
