Final reasons
Bohemians has a chance to further close the gap to table toppers Shelbourne tonight. After two straight victories in the league and also two victories in the Cup their form and confidence will be on a high. They are almost fully fit with only one question mark on striker Tony Grant. Waterford has lost their good form and is now in a row of four straight defeats. To further weaken their chances tonight they will have to be without suspended captain John Frost and joint leading goal scorer Darryl Murphy. We believe that Bohemians will take this good opportunity to heat up the championship race and win over Waterford. Medium stake 3%.
General comment about the game
Tonight the Irish Eircom league continues with the match between Bohemians and Waterford. Title chasers Bohemians finally have a chance to close the gap to league leaders Shelbourne to reasonable proportions; if they win tonight they will be ‘just’ eight points after. Their title chasing ambitions seemed to be over after their recent dip in form which saw them defeated by Shamrock and lowly Dublin City. However, two straight victories away together with draws for Shelbourne have renewed their hope to launch a successful pursuit of the champions. In last game they faced relegation battlers Longford and won with 1-0 after a nice goal from Dave Morrison. Both teams created a lot of chances but the goalkeepers denied them all with one exception. In all the victory was well deserved for Bohemians. Bohemians will be almost at full strength tonight. Defenders Ken Oman, Paul McNally and Damian Lynch will all be included in the squad after overcoming their respective injuries. Striker Tony Grant is their only doubt with a hamstring strain and he will face a late fitness test later today too see if he will be available for the game.
Waterford has four successive losses which is their worst run since 2001. The team started this season in a promising way with three wins from the first four games, but after that it has been more up and down and from the middle of May they have only gathered seven points from possible 27. In the last game at home to Drogheda, Waterford lost 3-1 after Drogheda scoring three goals during the first 25 minutes. Waterford got a consolation goal in the 84th minute which was their first goal in 350 minutes. Coach Alan Reynolds realise that three points tonight is very vital but there are some important players missing; captain and defender John Frost is out with suspension and forward Daryl Murphy and midfielder Wayne Fitzgerald are out with injuries.
